As part of major refurbishment works, Rovin Environmental was contracted by BSD Ltd for asbestos removal and decontamination works at The Swallow Hotel in Gateshead.
The works consisted of the removal and disposal of asbestos insulation board cladding from the service risers in the bathrooms of each room and also the decontamination of the boiler room within the hotel. This work was vital to be completed before any refurbishment works could commence on each floor of the property.
Rovin Environmental cooperated with the building contractors on site and communicated with them once a floor had been completed and had passed air clearances from an independent analytical company.
Due to the state of which the hotel was in prior to refurbishment and asbestos works were carried out, Rovin Environmental liaised with BSD Ltd and procured extra works to clear floors with asbestos containing debris.

After the school had closed, Hartlepool Borough Council; had begun major refurbishment work in late 2013. Rovin Environmental were contacted by Hartlepool Borough Council in early 2014 after it was found that asbestos containing materials had been inadvertently disturbed by tradesmen as he materials had not been found in the asbestos survey or were not identified correctly in the survey report and plans.
The existing old type 2, or management type asbestos survey was found to be inaccurate and did not provide sufficient information for the planned works to proceed safely, and so it was agreed that Rovin Environmental would carry out a refurbishment/demolition survey of the building in order to provide the necessary information to meet the requirements of the CDM regulations.
The survey revealed that a number of asbestos containing materials had been for whatever reason omitted from original, possible due to lack of access or incorrect labelling of sample locations in what was undoubtedly a complex site. Some of these asbestos materials needed to be removed in order for the refurbishment work to be carried out safely. These included asbestos insulation board ceiling and also chrysolite paper insulation to pipework in under floor ducts and risers.
Rovin Environmental worked with Hartlepool Borough Council to agree a programme where the removal of the asbestos materials could be notified in accordance with the CAR 2012 but also to minimise disruption to the timescales for the refurbishment. The management of Hartlepool Borough Council were very appreciative of the assistance of Rovin Environmental in acting as consultants on the project and in helping to keep the project on time.

Rovin Environmental delivers key stages of refurbishment work at Brighton General Hospital for the National Health Trust.
Rovin Environmental were awarded the contract to remove asbestos insulation board ceilings and asbestos containing pipework insulation from the kitchen and other areas of Brighton General Hospital prior to major refurbishment of this vital part of the building.
This was a key phase of the planned refurbishment as the rest of the programme depended on the asbestos removal being completed on time. Rovin Environmental not only completed the work on time and on budget, but also worked with the client and other parties to include the removal of other asbestos containing materials extra to the original scope of works without extending the timescales, which could have delayed the project significantly.

Rovin Environmental was appointed by a Local Authority to remove asbestos ceiling tiles from the kitchen and kitchen canopy of a school in Hartlepool during the October half-term holidays in 2013.
The work was planned to allow the kitchen to be refurbished and have all the work completed in time for the school to reopen for the new term.
After the removal work had commenced, the client approached Rovin Environmental and asked if it would be possible to amend the scope of works to allow the removal of the partition walls containing asbestos material. Rovin Environmental management discussed in detail with the client how the extra work could be accommodated without extending the timescale and delaying the reopening of the school.
After informing the HSE, Rovin Environmental put into effect the amended method statement and completed the required work on time and on budget.
Our client was very pleased with the high standards of work and the cleanliness of the area when it was returned for reoccupation. The commitment of Rovin Environmental management and staff who showed through their willingness to cooperate with the client, that they could bring projects to a successful completion safely.
